League Information

All leagues are contact leagues with blocking and tackling above and below the waist. 

Parent need to provide:  White helmet, shoulder pads, football or all-purpose shoes, and a practice jersey.

Association Provides:  Football pants, game jerseys (players get to keep their game jersey),
Elk River H
igh School Football helmet decals, and a mouth guard.

Football Jamboree:  All kids will participate in a Football Jamboree on Saturday, August 28th. Team pictures, scrimmages, apparel sales, & concessions.


2nd and 3rd Grade League

All children that will be entering grades 2nd and 3rd grades for the 2010-2011 school year are eligible to play in this league. The focus of the league is on Teaching the kids the fundamentals of the game, and making their first experience in organized football as fun as possible.

Aug 16th 6:00pm - Equipment Distribution & Weigh-ins for all 2nd – 3rd Grade. This will be at the varsity practice fields by the white football shed behind the hockey arena.  
August 16th-19th 6:00pm - The first nights of practice, both 2nd & 3rd grades will be practicing together.
August 20th - Team selections. (Coaches will contact players on where their team will be practicing and what time.
August 23rd - Practice begins for all 2nd-3rd Grade. Your coach will contact you with time and place.


Games will start the week of August 31st. Games will be played on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.
There will be weight restrictions on ball carriers.
 
Again This Year:  2nd and 3rd graders will play at half time of the September 2nd Elk River High School Varsity Football Game vs. Becker.


4th - 6th Grade Leagues

All children that will be entering 4th, 5th & 6th grades for the 2010-2011 school year are eligible to play in this league. In addition to playing against other Elk River teams, the kids will have the opportunity to play against teams from Rogers.  There will be weight restrictions on ball carriers. 

Aug 9th & 10th-6:00pm  Equipment Distribution, Weigh-ins & Player Evaluations for 4th – 6th Grades.  This will be at the varsity practice fields by the white football shed behind the hockey arena.  (You will need full pads, practice shirt, mouth guard, and a water bottle).  These are mandatory evaluations.
Aug 12th - Coaches will have a Team Draft/  
Aug 16th - Practice begins for all 4-6th Grade. Your coach will contact you with time and place.

Games will start the week of August 31st. Games will be played on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.

Oct. 16th & 17th - The season ends with playoffs and the Area 728 Bowl.


7th and 8th Grade Leagues

7th & 8th Grades will participate in the Minnesota Development Football League & the Anoka Hennepin Football League. The Elk River Youth Football Association will bus the athletes to and from games.

Aug 15th 6:00pm.
Equipment Distribution and Weigh-ins for all 7th - 8th Grade. This will be at the varsity practice fields by the white football shed behind the hockey arena.
Aug 15th 7:00pm. PARENT MEETING! - Same location as equipment distribution.  
Aug 16th – 20th Football evaluations - Each player should bring their helmets, shoulder pads, equipment & a water bottle for the first night. Players will be evaluated by the coaches during the first week of practice. Teams will be posted on the Elk River Youth Football website 10:00 PM Friday August 20th.
Aug 23rd - Practice begins.  Evening practices will take place until school starts then resume the after school schedule.
All players will have a locker to keep their equipment in. Your child will be supervised by a staff member until practice starts.

It will be the responsibility of the parent or the guardian to provide the player with football cleats, knee high black football socks, athletic jockstrap w/cup, Shoulder pads and football helmet (with a piece of white athletic tape please have the players last name printed on the front of the helmet), The association will issue football pants, game jerseys and a mouth guard.

There are no weight restrictions in the MDFL 8th Grade and Anoka Hennepin Leagues. Weight restrictions for the MDFL 7th grade team are QB’s and Running Backs 150 Lbs. Tight Ends, Line Backers and Defensive Backs 174Lbs. Minnesota State High School League rules will be in effect.

All 7th & 8th Grade teams will spend a HOME game with Coach Cross and The Elk River Elks Varsity Team. Your child will be in the locker room, classroom and on the Field with the Varsity team before the game starts! This is a great opportunity for your 7th or 8th Grader!
